The Emergent Church and Hyacinth

I just had a minor epiphany today.

I often struggle to find relevant analogies for the teachers on the extreme side of the Emergent Church movement. This one should do nicely.

The Emergent Church is a true church in the same sense that Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced "bouquet") is a genuine blueblood. It's all a matter of keeping up appearances. And as was the case with Hyacinth, the sham gets exposed these days on a regular basis.

Dearest Meanie,
You are soooo mean spirited! The Emergent chit-chat is just trying to be faithful to Jesus--whoever he was, because we can't know for certain--and to the Bible--whatever it says. You know, they really DO hold to Scripture, except when it talks about homosexuality--who can really know what the Bible teaches about that?--and the atonement, which is cosmic child abuse. Other than that, they're fine, genuine, transparent people.
Have you seen McLaren's new book? It's his ethics. "Everything Must Change." Expansive: everything. Wow! That's going to take a while. Adamant: Must. For people who don't like absolutes, they've fallen into their own pit once again. Got to run out to Memphis, TN to teach for RTS. I ordered some Birkenstocks that I need to pick up out there.

Birkenstocks? Oh, oh!

Let's hope you don't come home with an earring, a goatee and tattoo.
